I Am, We Are 10th Anniversary Youth Symposium
The I Am, We Are 10th Anniversary Youth Symposium at ANEW Resort Hunters Rest in Rustenburg was one for the history books — a celebration so powerful it felt like the room itself was alive.
From the moment the doors opened, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement: laughter, hugs, music, and the joyful hum of nearly a hundred young leaders, mentors, and partners ready to celebrate a decade of excellence.
Our Cultural Immersion Trip guests and family from the U.S. rolled up their sleeves, helping with setup, registration, and guiding guests with warm smiles. Their hands-on support reflected the true spirit of unity that defines I Am, We Are.
The day began with an electrifying spoken word performance by Nkagiseng Sethlare, whose poem “I Am, We Are” set the tone for reflection, purpose, and growth. The MC kept the energy flowing with laughter, icebreakers, and goal-setting activities that inspired youth to dream big and envision their next steps.
A whirlwind of workshops then lit up every corner of the venue. In the Entrepreneurship Track, Denzil Sibanda, Nomusa Khambule, Thaba Mchunu, and Clint Davies unpacked lessons on turning ideas into impact. Over in Personal Development, Dr. Kinikia Burdine, Dr. Kabaro Neswiswa, and Mervin Canham inspired growth and self-belief, sparking conversations that continued long after the sessions.
Meanwhile, Rethabile Milisi and Quinn Novels made financial literacy exciting, showing how smart money habits open doors to opportunity. Keabetswe Mosia and Cynthia Magagula led a job readiness session that left youth confident and prepared for interviews and the world beyond.
The reflective networking session overflowed with connection and collaboration. Youth and mentors like Nthabiseng Thabeta mingled, shared stories, and explored exhibitions from supporters such as BizHub IT, the Welgevonden Environmental Awareness Program, Kitso-ke-Lesedi, and the Department of Employment and Labour. Their presence and commitment made a real difference.
A proud highlight came when the Morafe Cohort received their certificates. Smiles, applause, and pure joy filled the air — a moment of pride as we reflected on how far each of them had come.
The heartbeat of the day pulsed through Bokamoso Life Centre’s Zulu and Gumboots dances — an explosion of rhythm, pride, and culture. Between the drumbeats, Colleen Edwards guided the room through calming breathing exercises, helping everyone pause and stay grounded amid the excitement.
Next came the unveiling of the IAWA Impact Study by Sabine Kineath — a powerful reflection of ten years of measurable growth and empowerment. Our final speaker, Temogo Phaka, a digital marketer, model, and artist, took the stage with his story “I Am Resilient.” His honesty and passion deeply moved the audience, reminding everyone of the power of perseverance.
Just when the day couldn’t get any better, Robot Boii stepped on stage. He didn’t just perform — he ignited the room. His energy, wisdom, and authenticity had everyone smiling, dancing, and inspired. It was the perfect finale — a celebration of talent, purpose, and joy.
As the sun set, we gathered for the sweetest moment: a symbolic 10th Anniversary cake-cutting. Cupcakes in hand, Thembi Mtimkulu led a heartfelt toast to many more years of impact, growth, and excellence.
The debut screening of IAWA’s first-ever documentary followed, capturing the organization’s roots, its first youth, and the legacy that continues to grow. It was an emotional, full-circle moment for the team.
We extend heartfelt thanks to Royal Bafokeng Sports, the Royal Bafokeng Institute, the Royal Bafokeng Administration, Kgosana, and His Majesty King Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi for their continued support and leadership. Your belief in our vision makes every milestone possible.
None of this would exist without our visionary founder, Meisha Robinson, the heartbeat behind I Am, We Are. Her dream, faith, and love for young people continue to guide everything we do.
Finally, thank you to every speaker, mentor, partner, organization, and exhibitor who made this day shine: Temogo Phaka, Keabetswe Mosia, Cynthia Magagula, Denzil Sibanda, Nomusa Khambule, Thaba Mchunu, Dr. Kinikia Burdine, Dr. Kabaro Neswiswa, Rethabile Milisi, Quinn Novels, Mervin Canham, Clint Davies, Nthabiseng Thabeta, Prince Moeng, Sabine Kineath, and Colleen Edwards.
To the youth of Rustenburg, the IAWA staff, and our Cultural Immersion Trip guests and family — thank you for showing up with open hearts, ready hands, and unstoppable energy. You made this milestone shine brighter than ever.
Here’s to ten years of impact, inspiration, and excellence — and to the next ten, even bolder.
